The design process

Use this checklist as a guide to your first thoughts about what you want in your new home!

What are the wants and needs of all family members? Number of rooms, specific requirements, health conditions (asthma).

Look at how you currently live. Where do you spend most of your time? Why do you choose this particular place? Is it size, lack of noise, lighting? Consider any oversized furniture that must be accommodated.

What features do you like about your home, and homes you have visited?

Consider your block. Are there any features you want to incorporate into the plan?

What are your specific likes / dislikes for external finishes?

Be sure to consider landscaping and finishing touches!

Concentrate on the floor plan. Most plans can be finished off in any architectural style!

Bring along design ideas from magazines and building catalogues (products, colours, finishes, styles...)

“Making changes at the planning stage is easy. It is not so easy to make changes when the concrete has been poured. Good planning is essential.”
